Final Post

My viewpoint on social media hasn't really changed much. I've always viewed it as something you're able to use however you'd like to. If you're seeking entertainment and social networking there are plenty of site that can facilitate that. If you're seeking to expand your business and market yourself you can absolutely do that. There are so many tools available to those interested in using social media to expand or promote their business. I definitely have a much better understanding of how to use social media from a business standpoint. Through the course Ive learned how many tools are available and the amount of metrics that can be analyzed to fine tune you're marketing strategy appropriately. I did find products and services that I believe would be extremely useful if I was to start my own business.

Email Marketing

Newsletters can be effective however I don't feel it would be beneficial for City Kutz to go that route. However if we did I feel sending one out quarterly. Within this newsletter we could showcase new barbers or the "hottest" haircuts and trending styles in mens grooming and fashion. I feel this would be a good route to take due to the fact that it would interest our customers and give them another way to interact with City Kutz.

Blogging Part 2

With City Kutz I feel the most appropriate content to post is Visual content thats appealing as well  information that pertains to hours of operation and any promotions or specials that are being held. Pictures and barbering go hand and hand. It gives the shop an opportunity to showcase their work and for the business thats everything because people are going to be attracted to good quality. Promotions and content of that nature is always a good thing to post because it keeps people current on whats going on and can potentially bring in new customers that may end up being loyal after giving us the initial try.

Blogging

By adding human interest to a post you subsequently add a "personal" relationship with the reader. Instead of cold facts or just a narration of events, adding human interest and personal experiences furthers the connection the blogger may be able to have with the reader. Adding that personal touch isn't as complicated as one may think although there are some things to consider. When "getting personal" you have to be sure you're the individual who should be getting personal, if you're not the face of the brand or you're personal experience doesn't exactly fit the values or ideology of the brand then you most likely shouldn't be getting personal.

Visual Media Part 2

Visual media most definitely works for my type of business. After doing some research I have found several successful business using visual media to expand their brand and increase  exposure.  The Blind Barber NYC - They are using Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr. They have about 50K followers on each site. Their last post was today and they do not usually receive many comments on their posts The proportion of followers to likes is about 1%. They post high quality pictures and videos instead of just typical phone pictures.  Barber of hells bottom - This barbershop is located in Washington D.C, they have Facebook and Instagram. They have about 12K followers and their last post was yesterday. They typically receive minimal comments and about 1% of their followers to engage their posts. They post high quality photos.  Adian Gill - This barbershop is located in New Orleans. They use Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. They have 35...

Visual Networks

Visual networks area great tool for business to use. They display content in a more appealing manner and allow users to interact with and view a business in a different medium. All platforms are not built equally and some are more suitable for different types of business than others. With Facebook displaying media is easy and when accompanied with text conveying thoughts and marketing to potential customers can be done easily. Pinterest is a visual platform that puts an emphasis on visual. Through "pins" users can save and go back to items that have peaked their interest, however, for City Kutz I don't feel pinterest is the right direction to go into due to the fact that  it is a bit cumbersome to navigate for novice users. Twitter is another visual platform that has taken the world by storm. This platform I feel is best suited for larger corporations that have an internationally, nationally, or regionally recognized brand, looki...

Business "Likes"

Using the City Kutz business page I choose to like several businesses  1. Oceanside Brewing Company 2. Belching Beaver Brewing Company 3. Oceanside Tattoo 4. Pour House 5. Blackrock Coffee  6. Oceanside Crossfit 7. Oceanside Motorsports I decided to like these pages in particular due to the fact that I believe our target audience frequent these establishments, our target market is males and I think its pretty safe to say that tattoo parlors and breweries are frequented by males. Also I feel as though City Kutz could partner with these business in some capacity in the future, be it discounts etc.

Post reach vs. Post Engagement

Post reach and post engagement are two helpful tools that can be used on Facebook in order to get a better look into what your posts are actually doing and how they re doing. With post reach you're able to see how many people your posts have been seen by or how many people your post has "reached" out too. Engagement is people interacting with these posts, liking them commenting sharing etc.  Knowing the difference between the two is important due to the fact that different businesses have different ways of being successful, a mom and pop bakery might not need to seek thousands upon thousands of people view their information on Facebook and may only need to serve their local area. They might just want to focus on building a solid and loyal customer base and taking car of and interacting with their customers. However a large corporation like Amazon would want to generate both post reach and post engagement they would want to buy cookies to see what people...

Week 5 Post 2

The target market is for City Kutz will be men and women looking to get quality haircuts. Our key demographic will be Marines since the barber shop is located close to Camp Pendleton and military men are required to get haircuts on a regular basis This will allow us to maintain a steady stream of revenue.  Through marketing via social media and community involvement I firmly believe we will be able reach our target audience.

Week 5 representation

The business I've chosen is City Kutz, this is the barber shop that I go to  I've been getting my haircut there for quite sometime so yes this is a real business Right now they are not using social media. I   know the  owner  and we have had multiple conversations about building a social media presence for the shop. It would be a good way to expand their customer base.

Week 5 Post one

After reviewing the about us on both websites in set one "econobum", and "justcheapdiapers" there are several differences that were extremely clear. Econobum is a cloth diaper company who is looking to create and expand the green concept by applying it to diapers, traditionally we usually know brands such as pampers and buggies and once those are soiled we toss them. However, Econobum is targeting the earth conscious customers who would like to play their part in helping to reduce their impact on the earth. Their website was appealing and modern as you would expect a "green" company to look like.  Justcheapdiapers on the other hand is exactly what the name implies its a website dedicated to providing the cheapest diapers with decent quality. They are providing the diapers that we are used to (disposable) and are most likely targeting thrifty moms who are looking to save some money by cutting costs.  I do believe that there a...

Week 4 Aesthestics

Post one http://www.pennyjuice.com/ Potential issues 1) Flash  player is  required to display the content on the site. Without flash the site is useless.  2) For those who do not wish to download flash (such as myself) I can only speculate what the site is about.  3) The Overall appearance of the site  isn't  very appealing.  Improvements  They should integrate a way of displaying their content without users having to download a program. They should also update their site to be more appealing, I understand its tailored towards children but parents are ultimately going to access and utilize the site.  http://jamilin.com/ Potential issues  1) The site is way too crowded 2) It is difficult to  navigate its like there is too much information 3) All of the testimonials and arbitrary information makes the site look a bit cheesy  They should remove some of the unnecessar...

Business and Consumer

I have had some difficulties in the past communicating with several businesses. Long wait times, voicemails and just overall unprofessional customer service. I feel as though social media is a hit or miss approach with getting in touch with a business. The internet is such a large place and its almost like shouting into a blackhole. Say if you had an issue with Target and went straight to twitter to try and resolve the issue the likelihood of you tweet being responded to is not that high and even still they might just refer you to their customer service department. On the flip side to this I have seen instances in which individuals will tweet large corporations and they will respond, not only are you heard but your complaint is in a public forum for others to see.  One instance in which I had a positive experience using social media to communicate with a business was about a year ago in L.A . I was hunting down a food truck that I love (Grilled Fraiche) and I was kind of bumme...

Social Media Perceptions

There are a lot of social media platforms out there and they all offer a lot of the same services throughout them. However there are key differences in the ways they are offered and how the platforms present these services. Due to these differences the different platforms often serve different purposes. In my opinion Facebook, Snapchat, and Twitter are the sites most geared towards personal use. Personally I use Facebook the most, and although there are many tools for businesses to promote and market themselves I still see more personal use on the site than professional. With Snapchat the whole basis behind it is sending pictures and messages to your friends or whomever you choose. Twitter allows users to share there thoughts with other users as well as post links and photos. Some features that Twitter has pioneered are trending topics and hashtags. They can provide a localized "topic of discussion" in which people can weigh in and even start "movements" via the i...

Post comments

I commented on Tiffany, Marie, and Jasmine's blogs.
Week 1: My Template Hello all, I chose this template due to the fact that it had a modern look to it. Its clean, clear and displays information in an easy to view format. The simplistic style allows for user friendly interaction. I also enjoy the landscape, the mountains give a relaxed feel to the blog. I tried messing around with some of the other features in the "advanced" section of the layout however I feel as though it looked best in the original format.
